Dan Cumbo has 17 years of wide-ranging experience in the field of transportation engineering including construction, maintenance, traffic engineering, and operations – in public and private sectors. Sixteen of these years were spent with NCDOT where he served in various positions including Sampson County Maintenance Engineer and Wilmington District Engineer. His last position with NCDOT was as the Division Traffic Engineer for Division 3 in Wilmington, NC. Mr. Cumbo joined Davenport Transportation Consulting (formerly John Davenport Engineering Inc.) in January of 2009. Dan has gained extensive knowledge and experience related to driveway permits, encroachments, and roadway design from his various positions of responsibility within multiple NCDOT Maintenance and District Offices. He has been directly responsible for the approval of hundreds of driveway and encroachment permits, highway improvement projects, and subdivision roads to be added to the State system. As a Division Traffic Engineer, Dan gained significant experience with traffic impact analyses for various sizes of development ranging from small residential subdivisions to large mixed-use developments. He investigated and approved all new signal installations during his tenure as Division Traffic Engineer. Dan has performed numerous highway operational and safety investigations with problem-solving strategies. He was involved with the design and installation of the first roundabouts on State roadways in Division 3. Mr. Cumbo has formed invaluable relationships with NCDOT staff and other local governmental agencies in the Cape Fear Region and statewide.
