Garrett Road Extension Traffic Signal Design, Durham, NC
In 2005, Davenport Transportation Consulting (DTC, formerly John Davenport Engineering) was contracted to provide traffic signal plans, electrical details, and metal pole loading diagrams for the upgrade of one existing signal and the installation of a new signal. Both signals had emergency vehicle preemption. The client on this project was the City of Durham. Directly across from the end of the City’s extension of Garrett Road was a driveway entrance for a commercial development. In 2007, at a point when the plans were very close to completion, it was discovered that the driveway design to the commercial development had been revised without notifying all the other parties involved. At that point, DTC entered into a separate contract with the developer’s engineering company to revise the plans for that signal to match their new design.
